The Start of a 21 Day Detox

So... I have definitely taken a break from blogging. My last blog entry on another site was over a year ago. Overall, I'm glad to get back to it because I do enjoy writing, and it's more fun where there is somewhat of an audience (versus in a journal).

Down to biz:
My friend suggested I create a blog while doing a 21 Day Detox. I learned about the SP Complete program and decided to try.

My goal with this blog is to describe through words and pictures how I handle my 1st ever detox.  There are 6 and 7 day detoxes, but I decided to do the 21 days!

And let me tell you, I've already come across some challenges.

1) Cravings
What was I craving the 1st day or so? (You always want what you can't have.)

  • Pancakes
  • Pepperoni pizza
  • Sandwiches
  • Cheese
  • Desserts
      & more!

I envisioned inviting friends to a smorgasbord at Whole Foods after I complete the detox. I already wrote a few friends about going to Maggiano's (I have a gift card) post-detox, also mentioning my desire to visit Black Sheep and have one of their famous sandwiches that won a competition in The Travel Channel's Adam Richman's Best Sandwich in America.

2) Grocery shopping
There is so LITTLE one can purchase at the traditional grocery store. It was definitely an odd experience for me this evening. I was intent on watermelon and avocados; alas, watermelon (my favorite fruit ever) was too expensive. I thought, "I can't just buy yellow squash and avocados." So I got string beans and tomatoes, too.

3) Preparation
Today I only brought hummus (which I found out is technically cheating- no beans except lentils allowed), lettuce, and sugar snap peas for lunch.
So I went to Martin's and got a few salad bar items: chopped yellow squash, zucchini, pumpkin seeds (not sure if seeds are ok or not), and some marinated cucumbers and onion. The prepared cucumbers and pumpkin seeds gave flavor to the chopped vegetables.

I had rice today and yesterday. Time to break out the lentils (which I rarely eat but find tasty). I will soak them overnight and hopefully make (vegan) lentil burgers tomorrow.
